Shorter head tubes mean a shorter stack, and a number of riders have found that higher handlebars are a good way to compensate. Hope just announced its made in the UK 35R riser bar ($235.46). These handlebars have a rise of 35 mm and are 100% designed, tested, and manufactured in Barnoldswick, UK, from fully recyclable carbon fiber. Expect the 35R to arrive in April.

Pivot Cycles has gained a reputation for making what the internet sometimes calls “dentist bikes.” And although each model in their lineup is priced comparably to its direct competitor, that lineup very rarely dips below $6,000.  Travis shares his thoughts in today’s Dust-Up on why Pivot Cycles are expensive, using information gathered after he toured the Pivot Cycles headquarters last month for the Trailcat launch. It’s hard to gather massive data about how careful or careless our industry is with waste.  A lot of manufacturers take transparent sustainability pledges, but a lot more don’t. Bike shops, on the other hand, have open doors. So, Travis surveyed several dozen bike shop recycling programs (and got a few dozen responses) about how their waste is managed. Answers ranged from recycling to donations to landfills to something involving art projects and Burning Man.

Welp, that didn’t take long. Just a couple days ago, Travis shared his first impressions of Forge+Bond’s prototype handlebar, but we didn’t know what it would cost. And we didn’t know when—or if—it would come to market. That may not seem like a normal way to announce a product, but this isn’t a normal product. 

Forge+Bond is probably doing a bunch of ongoing experiments with Fusion Fiber, their signature thermoplastic carbon material (see our first post about Forge+Bond for more details). The handlebars probably happened to be far enough along that they wanted to see what people thought. And maybe they saw a big uptick in traffic from the handful of reviews and handful of teasers that have been circulating. So, they picked a date and a price. The date is today, and the price is $265.

There is no shortage of wheel manufacturers in the United States, which is a good thing, but there are very few carbon wheel manufacturers here so when a new one pops up, we have to share it. Gulo Composites is from Western North Carolina and make their wheels – road, MTB, gravel – in-house. Their GRX-SL is an Allpavé wheel meant for road, gravel, trail, and everything in between.
