The Moots Womble 29er: Long-Term Bike and Frame Review
Let’s just say I didn’t expect any less than greatness from Moots when it came to the Womble, the latest creation from their shop in Steamboat Springs. From previous experiences, I knew how well Moots’ titanium bikes rode and was looking forward to trying out their take on a modern 29er.
A few years back, I put the Baxter 29er through the wringer on the Steamboat to Fort Collins Ramble Ride, and during my project with SRAM in the Inyo Mountains, I pedaled it high up in the Mojave Desert and through Death Valley, across miles of washboard roads.
If I learned anything from those experiences it’s that titanium is the greatest frame material, especially when it’s wielded by the Masters of Metal. I’ve had the Womble 29er for a few months now, throughout the dusty ‘n’ dry end of summer, well into the snow-filled fall, and am finally ready to make my thoughts official, so read on below.

The Most Colorful Bastion Cycles Ever? A Ti and Carbon Dream Bike from the ENVE Builder Round Up
This year’s ENVE Builder Round-Up featured two builds that didn’t make it through US Customs in time for the complete unveiling. Last weekend we looked at that beautiful Isen, a colorful build on its own, and this weekend, we’re featuring this lovely Bastion, a brand known for its ultra-high-tech frame construction by using 3D printed titanium lugs and beautifully woven carbon tubes. All made in-house in Victoria, Australia. Yes, this Bastion flew a long way to Ogden, Utah for the ENVE Builder Round-Up, but as you can see, it was worth it! Mattia Paganotti of Legor Cicli in Barcelona
“As the sun slowly rises over the ocean, The Spanish coastline fills with a warm glow. The Catalan streets awaken with cars, cyclists, and foot traffic spreading vibrant energy through the city. Descending from the hillsides, Mattia Paganotti finds his flow on the way towards the city center using banks and curves to craft riding lines that will inspire his next build. He rides with a style that reflects the liveliness of his personality and the playground that Barcelona provides.
Cycling is a way of life for the founder of Legor Cicli. A bicycle carries him from home, to his workshop, and anywhere in between. Day after day,his hands are kept busy building custom works of art for cyclists around the globe. Years and years as an apprentice refined his craftsmanship and technical skill, while a lifetime of skating, racing, and riding have shaped the style of both how he rides and creates bicycles. Sticking to a single category of bikes isn’t enough for him. Road, mountain, gravel, cyclocross, and even tandem bikes are the products of his hands and the vehicles on which you’ll find Mattia riding to work, riding for fun, riding all the time.
Spend one week in Barcelona and you’ll find that the city seems to be made for bicycles. Single track trails begin in the hillsides and slowly become flowing streets that wind their way down through the heart of the city towards the ocean. Public spaces provide a playground of creativity filled with jumps and jibs for those who lean towards a more playful type of riding. Wide streets offer up a tarmac race track for those seeking to push their speed. Barcelona is welcoming to all types of bicycles, offering up terrain choices that are as dynamic as the culture spread throughout it’s spiderweb of ancient back alleys and modern shopping complexes.”
Nice one, Enve!

ENVE Foundation Launch: Alec’s Retrotec Funduro 29er
With the pandemic putting a halt to NAHBS and our post-NAHBS framebuilder ride/showcase in Sedona this year, we decided to pull something together with our friends at ENVE to commemorate their new Foundation AM30 MTB wheel launch. When ENVE moved into its new carbon manufacturing and testing facility, they worked hard to push the progression of carbon wheel design and manufacturing. Over three years later and thousands of hours developing, today they launched their Foundation Collection, a completely new wheel line that marks a new milestone in wheel design. In short, for those of us who aren’t interested in graphs or projections, ENVE launched a $1600 made in the USA wheelset and to help showcase these new wheels, we pinged three frame builders to showcase these wheels. The last in the series is Retrotec with a beautiful Funduro 29er.
