Seven Days Mountain Bike Touring Across the Uncompahgre Plateau Along the San Juan Huts Telluride to Moab Route

Reportage

Seven Days Mountain Bike Touring Across the Uncompahgre Plateau Along the San Juan Huts Telluride to Moab Route

The idea of a true-to-form vacation, or holiday, is pretty foreign to me. As someone who’s spent their entire adult life living, breathing, eating, photographing bicycles 24/7, it’s hard to leave work, i.e. a camera, behind. A few years ago, right after Josh posted his Reportage from the Durango to Moab route along the San Juan Huts network, we put a reservation in for the Telluride to Moab route. Then the pandemic hit, delaying the trip indefinitely. We finally agreed upon a week this year and began planning. I hadn’t been on a week-long tour in years and with work seemingly stacking up, I was glad to disconnect with seven other riders touring across the Uncompahgre Plateau from the San Juan to the La Sal mountains. We all began packing, preparing, and the excited chatter resonated through my email inbox daily…

“Aeolian Erosion” is the third layout of the Radavist 2021 Calendar. It was shot with a Sony A9ii and a Sony 24-70 f2.8 GM lens in the San Juan Basin, NM.

“In the Four Corners, within the northwestern corner of New Mexico lies the San Juan Basin, which is home to various badlands. These formations were created through water deposition by various forms of water. Seas, rivers, and swamps deposited vegetation, organic matter, and minerals over the course of 550 million years. Through the combination of uplift and aeolian erosion (wind), these unique landscapes were slowly shaped over the last 2 million years.”

A New Years Canyon Hike in the Chihuahuan Desert

Reportage

A New Years Canyon Hike in the Chihuahuan Desert

In years past, we’ve often found ourselves meandering through the deserts of the Western United States. The Colorado, Mojave, Sonoran, and Great Basin all have provided ample inspiration to my tired body and mind. While many of these ecoregions feel familiar, by far the Chihuahuan is the most mysterious to me. It’s the one region we haven’t spent much time in and with our relocation to Santa Fe, I was looking forward to spending days meandering through the various public lands in southern New Mexico.

Red Velcro, Skipping Vortices, and Heavenly Sandstone: Riding in Sedona, Arizona

With cooler temps approaching, I really wanted to circle back around to our late spring trip to Sedona. Colin and I bugged out for a bit, camping just outside of town, riding bikes, 4-wheeling, and enjoying the local cuisine. While this isn’t necessarily a “Guide to Sedona” nor will it dive into history, both colonial and indigenous, it is meant to spark a desire to ride in this veritable mountain bike theme park.

The Radavist 2019 Calendar: July

This is the seventh layout of the Radavist 2019 Calendar, entitled “True Call” shot with a Canon 5D and a 100-400mm lens in Telluride, Colorado.

“Happy 4th of July. Here in the US, we pride ourselves in our Bald Eagle. It’s our nation’s symbol, a proud, noble bird with a majestic call. But have you ever heard a Bald Eagle’s caw? It’s hardly the hearty screech as depicted in movies. That’s because the Bald Eagle’s call is often substituted for the Red Tail Hawk’s.”

This is the ninth layout of the Radavist 2018 Calendar, entitled “Spires” shot with a Canon 1DXmkII and a 100-400mm lens in Searles Valley, California.

“We’re trying something a little different this month, celebrating the end of summer with an abstract landscape in both the desktop and mobile calendar. These tufa spires were formed as gas exited an ancient lake bed 10,000 to 100,000 years ago. Roughly 500 of these spires litter the landscape, with some reaching as high as 140 feet. The resulting landscape is straight out of a Hollywood SciFi flick, which, coincidentally has landed these iconic forms in many movies.”
